The Colour Field Recording Studio received its first customers through the door in 1999, realising a long held dream of owner, Tim Julian, to operate a recording Studio. Started primarily as a vehicle to record songs written by Tim and fellow musician Fred Renata, others began using the facility, most notably, Marion Arts who recorded the elegant homage to Tolkiens Lord of the Rings, "Songs of the Rings" at the studio.

Recording in The Colour Field is computer based, utilising the Creamw@re LUNA and TripleDAT systems. A good range of outboard gear is on hand, including Joe Meek VC1Qs, a TL Audio Valve channel, an ART Tube Pro channel, currently a Behringer 16 channel desk for routing, Mackie HR824 monitoring and Beyerdynamic headphones. Microphone duties are handled by Rode, AKG, Studio Projects and Shure.

Location, Location, Location is a plus for The Colour Field, we are situated in a semi-rural area with park like grounds and ample parking. We use two rooms - control room and live room, comprising around 50sq metres. The studio is ideally suited for singer-songwriters, bands, audio restoration and voice over work. Tim is also a qualified music teacher and skilled songwriter/arranger, and as such is able to offer help with any stage of production. Mastering can also be carried out at The Colour Field, for which we use the Creamw@re OPTIMASTER system - a transparent, multiband tool that can delicately improve a tracks presence or get it hot and steamy!
